Reporting to the President, the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs serves as the Chief Academic Officer and has oversight of all curricular and co-curricular academic programs. The Provost ensures that the university mission and identity are manifest in all academic programs and that programs meet the highest possible academic standards while furthering the Catholic intellectual tradition. The Provost also has a leadership role in promoting student success and retention, faculty scholarship and curriculum innovation. The Provost works with the President and the Board of Directors on faculty tenure and promotion and program review and sustainability. With the President’s Cabinet, especially the Chief Financial Officer, the Provost makes and implements strategies to promote the long-term fiscal health of the institution. In the absence of the President, the Provost represents the university to external stakeholders.

Essential Duties:

  • Collaborates with the President, Board and campus community to promote the Walsh University mission, Catholic identity, and the Catholic intellectual tradition.

  • Administers all academic curricular and co-curricular programs.

  • Chair’s the Provost Staff of deans and other direct reports.

  • Represents Academics to the Board of Directors and coordinates the Academic Affairs committee of the Board.

  • Serves as the primary coordinator of accreditation and assessment activities.

  • Proposes and implements the Academic Affairs and all other academic budgets.

  • Works with Chief Financial Officer and Chief Enrollment Officer in creating programs for enrollment and revenue growth.

  • Plans and executes faculty development programming.

  • Coordinates hiring process for faculty and makes recommendations for hiring to the President.

  • Coordinates the tenure, post-tenure, and promotion process and makes recommendations to the President and Board of Directors.

  • Coordinates and mediates between school deans and promotes interdisciplinary collaborations in teaching, scholarship, and service.

  • Approves academic grant proposals and supervises post-grant compliance process.

  • Promotes curricular and research innovations throughout the university.

  • Sits as a member of the President’s Cabinet, chairs the Provost Staff meetings and sits as an ex officio member of Faculty Senate and undergraduate and graduate curriculum committees.

  • Represents the university in the absence of the President.

  • Other duties as assigned by the President.

Qualifications

  • An earned doctorate in an academic discipline represented at Walsh University.

  • A commitment to the Catholic intellectual tradition, Catholic social teaching, and the spirit of servant-leadership exemplified by the founders of Walsh, the Brothers of Christian Instruction.

  • An understanding of the opportunities and challenges of private, faith-based higher education in the twenty-first century.

  • A desire to promote access to education for traditional undergraduates, graduate students and adult learning through different modes of delivery, including traditional, hybrid and online education.

  • An ability to create and implement a budget.

  • Ability to work collaboratively with other members of senior administration and through a shared governance process to effect positive change for the university.
