The School of Biological Sciences together with The Institute for Global Food Security (IGFS) at Queen’s University Belfast, is currently seeking to appoint an exceptional academic at either Senior Lecturer or Lecturer level in Marine Biology.

The School of Biological Sciences together with (IGFS) provides a vibrant and integrated research and enterprise environment. We are internationally recognised for our high quality research and are number 1 in the UK for research excellence in the UK REF 2021 (UoA 6). 

The School holds Athena SWAN Gold status, which recognises significant and sustained achievement in gender equality across higher education and research and its ongoing dedication to representation, progress and success for all.

We are seeking to appoint outstanding scientists to enhance our globally connected research strengths in Marine Biology. The post holders will be expected to contribute to the development and delivery of our undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, participate in the successful mentoring and supervision of postgraduate researchers and to contribute to the School’s administration and outreach activities.

The successful candidate must have, and your application should clearly demonstrate you have: 

  • Honours degree or equivalent in biological subject with a strong component in Marine Biology or an area relevant to the job purpose.
    PhD or equivalent in an area relevant to the job purpose.
  • Research experience in the field of Marine Biology, which complements the research priorities of the School and the Institute for Global Food Security.
  • Sustained record of high-quality publications at an international level of excellence in internationally recognised journals. 
  • Record of successfully obtaining significant research funding including the RCUK and other resources to underpin research, as appropriate to the discipline, through competitive national or international peer-reviewed processes as Principal Investigator.
  • Evidence of developing research methodologies, models, approaches and techniques.
  • Experience of presenting at national and international meetings and conferences.
  • Track record of academic enterprise and knowledge transfer with industrial partners.
