The National Security Sector at Leidos currently has opening for a Red Hat Software Engineer to work out of the San Diego office. This is an exciting opportunity to use your experience helping the PEO IWS 5 program mission. In this mission, we provide support to the Navy's AN/SQQ-89(V) program, to include the virtualizing and corrective maintenance actions on ASW Virtual Operator Trainers (VOT) throughout multiple Fleet Concentration Areas.

Job Description

Responsible for network engineering support for the AN/SQQ 89A(V)15, including virtualizing and corrective maintenance actions on ASW Virtual Operator Trainers (VOT) throughout multiple Fleet Concentration Areas. Duties may also include providing specifications for network architecture, evaluating/recommending new upgrades to enhance current capabilities, and performing PEO IWS5 needs assessments. Support level duties may include daily system monitoring, in field VOT installations & testing, conducting technical refreshes, future system virtualization, troubleshooting & network repairs (distant and local).

Works independently, or as part of a small and specialized team to achieve day-to-day objectives with significant impact on operational results or project deliverables. Typically responsible for coaching and reviewing the work of lower level technical staff (Network Ops and Admin personnel). Develops technical solutions that require collaboration with internal experts to solve problems that require deep analyses and understanding of impact on end-product/solution. Communicates with internal and client project team members, to include PEO IWS5 Program Office Technical Point of Contact and Assistant Program Manager. This position requires the ability to travel approximately 1- 4 weeks per year, potentially internationally and on short notice for customer meetings and VOT Support

Primary Responsibilities

  • As part of the Training Systems Engineering Team (TSET), you will develop hardware and software solutions for IWS5 customer needs, to include Configuration Management (CM) practices, tools & techniques, and US Navy Cyber Security requirements.

  • As part of TSET, you will be responsible for designing, documenting, developing, and testing application software to support a wide range of customer training needs.

  • Support the planning, management, and logistical activities associated with system development.

  • Actively participate with the government customer to develop and document required system specifications, capabilities, etc.

Basic Qualifications

  • Requires a BS and 4+ years of prior relevant experience or Masters with 2+ years of prior relevant experience.

  • Experience virtualizing complex legacy hardware and network infrastructure, with KVM/Libvirt and Open vSwitch.

  • Red Hat Certified Engineer (RHCE) level of knowledge of Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL).

  • Strong software scripting skills, specific with Ansible, Python, and BASH.

  • Ability to perform listed responsibilities in an offline and secured environment using a limited development environment, as well as specific tools such as Podman, Git, and other offline repository development tools.

  • Works independently to achieve day-to-day objectives with significant impact on operational results or project deliverables.

  • Experience in development and maintenance of software-related deliverables, e.g. Software Version Descriptions, System Design Documents, Interface Control Documents, etc. for DOD/USG customers.

  • Experience with reverse engineering undocumented products..

  • Ability to travel approximately 1- 4 weeks per year, potentially internationally and on short notice for customer meetings and VOT Support.

  • US Citizenship required, plus the ability to obtain and/or maintain a DoD Secret Security Clearance.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with AN/SQQ-89A(V)15 ACB-11,13,15,17,19 sensor suite.

  • Experience with AN/UYQ-100 Under Sea Warfare Decision Support System

Pay Range:Pay Range $81,250.00 - $146,875.00
